Philip, the son of white Russian immigrants, is captured by the Germans in the early days of WW2 on the Leningrad front and is taken to Europe. Philip, escaping Stalin’s terror with his new wife Tatyana, ends up in the American zone and migrates to America. Philip’s son, Max, serves as a fighter pilot in the Soviet Air Force during the Cold War. The KGB announces to Max that his father is alive in America and that Max is being cut from the Air Force. Philip is waiting to meet his son in Helsinki, but the KGB will not let Max go.
